Quirky Shopping Guide, Mumbai

After the large format home stores that source furniture and accessories ususally from South-East Asia, emerged the smaller home-grown stores that stock accessories for home and you, clothes and other cooler finds from Indian designers, who may be relatively unknown. Hence, the surprises are many as you may chance upon things not found anywhere else.

Here is a shopping guide for Quirk in Mumbai:

1. Loose Ends, Bandra

2. Attic, Santacruz

3. Tappu Ki Dukaan, Fort

Tappu Ki Dukaan calls itself “a little shop with little knick knacks and a lot more”, but it is really a contemporary curio store that stocks a range of quirky new brands .More information here

4. Colaba Causeway:

While these are formal options, non-Indians especially may find a treasure trove at Colaba Causeway with its vast array of costume beaded jewellery, export surplus clothes, cafe’s, scarves, fake antiques. It is the Anjuna flea market edited.

5. Chor Bazar: The quite famous Mutton Street houses shops selling recent (non-antique) and old antiques. A good place for older furniture, vases, chests and other very Indian accessories.
