Book : Fashion since 1900

May 26, 2010

Recently read, Fashion since 1900, published by Thames & Hudson under their World of Art series.

Authored by Valerie Mendes and Amy de la Haye, the book traces the journey and evolution of fashion since 1900 till 2009. The narrative moves fast and presents a crisp history which is easy to digest, understand and co-relate to the events of each decade since 1900.

Illustrated with appropriate pictures, the book starts in 1900, when fashion was mainly haute couture and  was a privilege of a select few. By 2009, it makes a very important point that today fashion is more inclusive and it’s audience is far and wide. Mentioning recent launches of Vogue magazine in India and China, it ends on a chapter on these new and emerging markets and why they are important.

We recommend it for a quick overview and good understanding  of the evolution of fashion over the ages.
